96 evinrude 10hp

my 96 evinrude 10hp died on the way in to the dock,finally got it started, even though it was running poorly. Pulled the cover when i got home & found a spark wire loose at the plug,thought i knew what i was doing-wrong! The previous owner had a spare power pack(USED) put it on, still no spark or run.Any ideas? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing you do is disconnect the black/yellow wire from the pack and see what happens.

i checked the black/yellow wire from the kill switch to ground-no continuity, pulled the lanyard & had full continuity to ground. thanks for reply
