Late last fall I hit a submerged stump. My motor runs great in forward, but I have no neutral or reverse. I pulled the lower unit and everything looks fine and shifts properly. The shift linkage shifts properly. I have to assume that the issue is somewhere between the top and bottom, perhaps a linkage or coupler that has broken or come loose. Here's my problem. I cannot figure out how to remove the mid unit cowling. I have pulled every bolt loose that I can find. The powerhead is loose (but not completely removed), and the cowling will not budge. I have beat on it slightly with a maul but do not want to go crazy for fear of breaking something. This thing is solid so I have to believe I am missing at least one bolt if not two. I have looked in both of my repair manuals and neither one covers the removal of this part of the motor. I can post photos if that would help. Your suggestions are appreciated.
