Hello, I just bought a boat with a what I believe to be 75 horsepower Mercury. Serial number is 6468108. I got it as a non-running motor and with no history. It does try to start which is not my concern I'll deal with that later. My concern now is I was trying to determine if the lower unit was shot by putting it in gear and seeing if the prop would spin the engine. Put it in reverse and I had no issue I can spend the engine forward I could spend the engine backwards from the prop. I put the engine in forward and I cannot get the engine to spin by pushing the prop forward all it does is spin but if I spin the prop backwards the engine will spin backwards. I am at a loss. I've never seen this nor do I believe it is a spun prop. Any ideas will be appreciated
