Engine no start...guessed bad switch due to age (1973) and use..replaced switch...still no start... cleaned batt (duh) and started...turn off and back on no start...checked small 20amp fuse next to solonoid...blown...replaced...hit key and blow fuse again...checked all connections and visable wiring and can see no damage...guessing it's a dead short, but where and how to trace it out...HELP PLEASE!

Got extra fuses? You may blow a few more till you find the trouble. I suggest you first disconnect the purple wires from the terminal strip and see if it then blows when you try to start. If it blows when connected but not when disconnected, the trouble is somewhere in the motor circuits fed by purple (choke). But if it still blows when disconnected, the short is in the control or the cables going to or from it----or another circuit. Try other circuits the same way, this time by disconnecting the white wires from the solenoid, etc.
