4.3l efi intermittent backfire or loss of power

serial ol696198. Starts fine runs good until intermittently seems like backfire or loss of power. Tach and Dash goes down as does stereo. Happens fast and then all is good. Changed plugs, distributor cap etc. Happens infrequently. Anyone know whats up? Stereo hooked directly to battery.

Check and clean all battery connections, the starter connections and the grounds. Also check the connections on the alternator.

Ditto Dock's suggestion. Also check engine harness plug.

efi don't like low voltage. disconnect the battery before cleaning up the connections and make sure the battery lugs are clean they may look clean use a battery brush.

follow the neg cable to the main ground on the block or bell housing, remove and clean that one good and check the ends of the cable.

Thankyou, I'll do it this weekend. Seems odd though that the Stereo hooked directly to the battery would blip as well, no?

Chances are you have a bad ground. You probably ran just the power wire to the battery and grabbed a ground in the helm for the stereo.

Just take stereo out of system and see if it happens
