I am stripping down my 318 engine.

I am trying to remove the water pump housing and in the middle of the housing there is a threaded plug with what appears to be a keyway. It looks like a lock.

If someone could explains this to me it would be appreciated.

"I dont see it being an attachment for anything, but this is the 1st time I am stripping an engine down.

It looks like a cylinder core for a lock with an opening that you would put a key in.

It has to come off in order to get the water pump housing off. I will have to use a screwdriver and see what happens.

Thanks"

That might simply (?)

That might simply (?) be an automotive coolant outlet that's not needed and plugged off.
