2GM20F Mixing Elbow Question

I have pulled my mixing elbow to inspect for clogs. Looks clear. How does raw water not flow back into the motor. Is there a one way valve?

no check valve....the exit port(s) for the water is (are) on the 'downhill' side of the elbow, so any residual drip should go down into the exhaust hose.
