"Just purchased 1967 Century R
"Just purchased 1967 Century Resorter with Ford Interceptor 289 Purchased via third party so no info from actual former owner. Engine supposedly rebuilt recently and appears to be true as all accessories, i.e. starter, alterator, manifolds, risers new. Problem when running for minute or two at above 2500 RPM is that all of a sudden will get repeated backfiring and engine will shut down if not throttled back fast enougth. ALso only turning about 3200 max - is 15 ft resorter with only me in boat so would think should turn up at least 4000. Suspect burnt valves and will do compression check but since engine just redone this seems strange. Any ideas or suggestions."
