Hi im trying to stripdown the swivel bracket from the engine .at the lower end there is a clamp which appears to come in two parts .i have removed all of the bolts and the two half,s come appart to a certain extent but something seems to be holding it there .there seem,s to be some rubber mountings each side of the two half,s .any help appreciated :)

There is actually 3 rubber (mounts/bumpers) in there - one across the front is kinda pressed/squeezed into a cavity on each side of the bracket - the two in the rear (exhaust housing end of things) just kinda butt against each other (pressed into each half respectively).

You can pry the two sides apart - do take care though as you can gouge up the metal without too much effort.

When you put it back together, covering the front bumper with some Vaseline or dish soap will help everything slip back into place.

After years of being "undisturbed" it may be a bit of a "booger" to get it to separate.

Hi thanks for your help :).have to give it a bit more gentle persuasion.didn,t want to break anything been tapping it with a rubber mallet .the reason for taking it appart was to repaint the whole outboard .someone had allready badly painted it .im going to strip it and epoxy it and repaint it all in two pack
