Gents,
Got a puzzling one...my 2001 225 hp Optimax while cruising back to the ramp at 2500 RPM just stopped without any sign of a problem. Then it will not start back up at all. Called Tow Boat (nice to be a member) and got towed in. Diagnostics time...
1) checked my voltage while under load 12.3 V then dropped to 8 Volts while cranking (changed all of the battery cable from 4 gage to 2 gage with soldered terminals - voltage is now at 11.5 at starter while cranking. - Still no ignition...
2) felt the Electric low pressure fuel pump (super hot to the touch). removed it and tested it...Motor would not spin (replaced Low pressure Fuel Pump) - Primed bulb then still no start.
3) Checked fuses - all good but still no spark
4) Checked ignition relay - clicks when key is turned - all good but still no spark for ignition.
5) Checked Crank position sensor - sensor measured good (300+ ohms would move the Volt Ohm Meter when moving the flywheel by hand)
Did not get to the coils or check spark plugs yet. Suggestions fellow fishermen.
