225 2 stroke mercury mariner overheating problem

I have a 225 2 stroke, has been out of the water for about 6months and when I put it back in a week ago it would overhead at random times on the way out to the reef mainly when we would go through some rough water. At about 26 knots. I let it settle for a minute or so off and then I'd start it back up and the temperature would be back to normal. It would do this the whole way out about 30ks. But on the way back there was no issue whatsoever. It does this the other time I went out two days ago.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on I think it's a sensor issue as there is steady water flowing through the telltale. Possible oil leak coming out the top of the oil reservoir in the outboard.

Any ideas would be much appreciated cheers.

Check the t-stats and cooling system for corrosion as you mention "reef" which is salt water and if not rinsed it will eat a engine up from the inside
