Neighbors outboard, used every year, just going in the water and had a problem with idle. It’s in a center console small zodiac, has mercury remote shifter, side mount.
It starts and runs great except when I used the high idle lever and let it run in a barrel, run it up to 2500, take lever back to idle, it stays running at 2500, no change. I’m told it did the same thing when shifted into reverse at launch, stayed at high idle until ignition switched off.
In the barrel running at 2500, switch off, start it and it idles normal. Bring idle up, it sticks there until you switch off. It’s now been running 15 minutes at 2000 with high idle lever at idle, no change in rpm.
Is there something going on with the electronics?
I’m a carb guy, owned a 1998 merc 2 stroke, a 140 Evinrude, now a 99 Honda efi 130.
Any suggestions appreciated.
