2003 Mercruiser 5.0l starting issue

Hi everyone, I am working on a 2003 rinker that has a mercruiser 5.0l moo with bravo 3 outdrive. The owner was having problems re-starting the boat after it was warmed up so he changed the cap and rotor which definitely needed it and I know those flat caps are notorious for failing. After he changed it the boat started right up, ran for awhile, then quit. Now it will just roll over and not fire and once I shut the key off it diesels. However if spray some ether in the throttle body it will start right up and run just fine. Makes me believe it has to do with fuel and maybe the initial start up of the mpi, but can’t put a finger on it. Also I used my rhinda scan tool and no codes pop up, only the typical ghost codes. Any ideas? Thanks everyone

Out a fuel pressure gage on the fuel rails and see what pressure you are getting.
