2003 Evinrude 200 FTICT - leaking gear oil around bearing carrier

full replacement of bearing carrier assembly last spring including all bearings, seals, housing and carrier gasket.
Leaking oil from around housing, no leaking around prop shaft.
How often do housing seals (#39 on outdrive parts diagram) fail after one year? Could I have not tightened enough? Any experience with this appreciated.

If #39 is the o-ring then it should last 20 years or more.------But if surfaces in the bearing carrier and gear housing are corroded then all bets are off.

The leak has nothing to do with tightening anything.

Make sure you're using the updated bearing carrier with wedge especially on a Lighting gearcase.
