After a year storage, we can’t keep our Mercury 50 running. It will start, and run for a few seconds before cutting. Found lots of junk in the fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump. The silver lines seem to break down with time I’ve been told. We cleaned and blew out the lines. Still the same issue. Carburetor rebuilt a few years ago, we drain the gas every season. I don’t think it’s the carbs considering the fuel filter is before them, and it remains reality clear.
Found a big melted mess of wires on the spark plug timing wires. I changed them out for fresh wires.
We also tried playing with the fuel mixture but it didn’t seem to help much.
It also seems to burn too much oil. Last season it only went down an inch, but this season it’s down 6 inches.
Any ideas on what could be causing this issue?
