Colleagues,
I am looking for some quick guidance regarding a 2000 Johnson starter issue...
I sold my 17' Whaler to a buddy four years ago - he used is 3x (uggh!), and now needs help in selling it. It has sat for two full seasons, and after replacing fuel/fuel lines, I tried to start it. (It ran when put away). The starter turns furiously, but gear does not eject (solenoid made a loud clicking noise when cranking - not a bendix-equipped gear drive). I replaced the solenoid, and still does not eject - although the loud clicking has gone away. Looking for solutions. Is it possible that the gear shaft has become fused internally and amperage of solenoid is not sufficient to free it up? Boat was used in saltwater by me, then fresh water by him (3x!).
Some folks should not own boats.
