2000 90hp No Go Past 2100 rpm

I have a 2000 90 h.p. (J90PLSSE) that starts fine and in warm-up mode will reach 6k and higher. After warming up and going out the channel to lake Erie at a no-wake speed all was fine, when entering the lake and moved throttle forward for high speed it only went up to 2100 r.p.m.s and that was it. Tried in reverse and had r.p.m.s like normal could reach 6k if needed. Tried the warm up position and had the correct r.p.m.s., all I wanted. Only issue was when going forward, only 2100 r.p.m.s. Any help is deeply appreciated. Thanks

The motor is not producing proper power.----Most motors will rev up on neutral.----Means nothing.----Start with a compression test.----then a spark check.-----Sounds like it is running on 2 cylinders.
