" Ran fine for about 1 1/2 hours. We were slowing down going toward a dock and it stalled out. Acts like it's not getting any gas. Never started back up, had to be towed. What can we check out as amateurs before we take it to the shop?

When you say that it won't crank, it means that the starter is not turning the flywheel. Is this what you are trying to say, or does the starter turn the engine, and the engine does not start?
