1996 mercury cruiser 7.4 454

I have a 1996 boat stern drive Mercury cruiser 7.4 454 carburetor new battery’s new alternator electric choke when cold starts right up after running it for a good hour come to a complete stop shut it down when it comes to staring it back up after an hour of sitting it almost does not start almost sounds like the battery is dead it eventually starts if I give it throttle but if I don’t, it won’t battery is three weeks old it’s a Interstate 1000 cca was wondering could it be the starter because it’s hot? Any help thank you! Motor has 280hrs on it rebuilt!

I say start by making sure the battery cables are in good shape and the end connectors are clean and securely fastened...
