I've had great luck with this motor for 10 years. It is now idling poorly. It starts fine, and runs at speed fine, but when loading back on trailer, continues to die out. I can restart by using "warm up throttle", but dies again after putting in gear. Spark plugs are new, fuel filter is new, carb just rebuilt. HELP!

What's the idle set at?

Maybe a carb cleaning?
New plugs?

Carb cleaning.
I use a mix of TCW-3 and pump gas and Chevrons Techron(black jug).
The jug of Techron mixed with 1/2 gal gas and the correct amount of oil in a remote tank.
Then hook the mix to the motor and start it.
Give it time to run the mix through the motor.

Shut it down and let set for 2 hrs.
Then run again for 20 min.

Or you can take them apart and clean.

The mix ensures that the passages that you can't get to get clean'd.

Make sure there is oil enough to offset the Techron.

Then switch back to the regular fuel.

How is the idle adjusted? Seems too low to me.

You have a tachometer?
You need a tach to set the rpm's.
The towershaft is where you set the rpm's.
In the drive,on the hose, they need to be about 1150-1200.

In the water in gear, about 750-800 rpm's

Find a parts breakdown. Boatsdotnet has a good parts list.
Force is listed under Mercury Outboards.
Find the appropriate year and model.
Look for "towershaft" about 1/2 way down is a screw that has a locking nut that holds it in place.
You loosen the nut and turn the screw in to bring it up.
