1993 Evinrude Intruder 150 VJ150GLETR need help with diagnostics

Hi All

I have a 1993 Evinrude Intruder 150 Model VJ150GLETR on my 93 Princecraft Vacanza 22. I have a few issues. lately the tach has stopped working and i have diagnosed 1 bad coil using the spark gap test. I replaced the bad coil with a know working one. what is the easiest test to see if my Regulator/Rectifier is working correctly?

Parts replaced below
all 3 coils
spark plugs
spark plug wires
fuel filter

Other details
engine has its VRO oil injection system in place

I was wondering if anyone has tried what @joereeves mentioned here (link) on a newer engine that does not have the terminal strip?

if I'm reading correctly I would need to disconnect the gray wire from the regulator/rectifier and connect the tach directly to one of the yellow wires leading from the stator
