1992 Evinrude 200 Horse VRO

I have a 200 horse Evinrude 1992 model with a VRO pump on it. Motor run great no problems. Bought used a couple years ago, and I always like to do preventive maintenance and stay abreast of problems. What does it entail to install a rebuild kit in the pump, wanting to go through the pump this winter. Or would it be better to just buy a new unit. They are pricey. Not really interested in removing the VRO unit been on the motor since 1992 working out alright. Thanks for the sharing of Knowledge.

The VRO is actually very simple to take apart for inspection.-----Might not require many parts.----Often just a rubber washer ( brown rubber ? ) might need replacing.----I would not even think of buying a complete new pump !
