1990 30 hp Johnson pull start

Trying to get the lower unit off, taken all bolts off and the shift linkage behind the intake screens still won't come Down any farther than an inch or so is there a linkage up top or something I'm missing thanks
 
No need to look for a linkage up top.----------Perhaps you missed removing the wee plastic keeper on the upper shift rod.------Slide the nut up to find it.
 
Got the keeper on the linkage behind the water screens just above prop is there any other cause still can't get er to drop more than a smidge
 
4 bolts and one nut is all there is.---Possible that the tube / dowel around the front stud is tight.--Use a little heat there.
 
We got it turns out we have a bent shaft so it was tight to get down, which is why we were trying to pull the lower unit thanks for your help think if we bent it straight it would be ok or should we look for a new/used shaft?
