I have a 1988 Johnson 70 VRO 3 cylinder outboard. I bought it second hand and it had a slight misfire at about 2000 rpm.
I put it in for a service and said that it has a slight misfire. When I picked it up a month later I was told that it was all fine. I took it out on the water yestarday(6th May) and it was missing all over the place but ran quite well if you could get it to full throttle.
I tried another set of new plugs but still misses. Any suggestion on where to start on this?
I have not checked anything out yet as not had time. Visually, all looks good, no cracked coils etc.. Greatfull for any pointers here.
thanks.

Is this engine fitted with SLOW as that would answer a few questions. It seems like a cylinder is dropping out as some sort of protection for the engine!!!

Not fitted with SLOW------Run with a timing light to see if you can determine which cylinder is " missing " at times.

I will try that as I'm already fed up with it ruining my weekends when I could be out fishing, skiing etc...
