1988 Four Winns Freedom engine wont stay running

I have a 1988 Four Winns Freedom 160. The engine will start and run if the key is held in the start position. Once I release the key, the engine will die. It ran a few weeks ago. Ow nothing.

Ayuh,..... What motor,..??..??

I'm guessin' the key switch is failing,....
In the start circuit, the ignition is powered off the starter's solenoid,....
When you let off the key, the ignition circuit is supposed to take over,.....
Check for power on the key switch's (I) post, it should be a purple wire,....

The engine is OMC 302AMRGDP 3.0L Stern Drive. I will check the switch. Where does this land on the engine?

Ayuh,..... At the coil's tiny (+) terminal,....

Thanks for your help. there was a bad wire on the engine harness. replaced harness and all is good.
