I have a1984 Evinrude 50hp runs great just not charging battery thinking rectifier?

do you know how to do a simple diode test? red wire to yellows both directions, ground to yellows both directions. and failure in readings means its shot. CDI makes a sweet regulated version. well worth it IMO.
