1984 mercury 50 hp 2-stroke exhaust

Hey all I noticed from what I’m thinking some exhaust coming out of the front under cowling. Area in red I’m thinking it’s coming out of. Is this a clog? Or needs new gasket? Or forget about it?

I know this is a 4 year old thread but I have the exact problem on my 1982 mercury 50hp. The rubber grommet/o-ring around that shaft is shot on mine and leaks exhaust. I can’t figure out how to get in there and replace it or even the right part number. Any help would be greatly appreciated I can’t find any other info on this problem. Thanks!
