Issue with internal leak on tilt/trim for 1983 Evinrude 70hp. Whaler 15 fully restored and engine complete rebuild 2022.
Here is the deal. Tilt up motor, not trim.... when stopped it will drop about 3" to 5", then sit there and not drop on its own, even overnight. If I push down on the shaft it will drop as long as I apply pressure, then slowly stop on its own. Again, will not drop any further until I push down on the shaft again.
Have replaced all piston seals, o-rings, the 5 check valves and manual release valve and its o-ring. But it is still doing the same. Only parts not replaced, I have these on order atm, is the Expansion Relief Valve and Trim Up Relief Valve.
Its as if when I push down on the shaft a valve opens allowing fluid to flow and when I stop the valve slowly closes. Weak relief valve spring?
