I had to replace the gearcase cover/seal on my motor with one from a parts motor. The previous was cracked and seemed to prevent good water flow from the water pump.
I had to remove the shift rod from the gear case, and now I cannot get it to seat. I can see down inside the gearcase the small hole that seems to be where it belongs, but I cannot get it to seat.
I can tell that it's not in the right place because of the split ring and o-rings-- they sit too high.... and I can also tell that the shift rod isn't actually engaging anything.
Any tips? I've tried spinning the prop clockwise in case that made a difference. I admit to not understanding just how all the gears function inside.
I'm trying to get this going today, I appreciate any help!
