1981 Mariner 40hp question.

I have a disabled veteran whos boats motors lower case cracked and lost a chunk of the case near the prop. trouble is we dont know much about the motor to find a replacement. we have found a 89 entire lower end but the person doesnt know which motor it came from except that is was a 40hp mariner built in 1989. do we think that it will match? or can anyone tell me which other motos will match to it so i can get this veteran back on the water. information on his motor is "6E9L400855" THANKS in advance.

That is a Yamaha Mariner,a Yamaha 40FM in all but name,so you need to know if the proposed replacement is Japan or USA built,needs to be Japanese.
