1978 johnson ev 70H water pump housing O ring?

Greetings all,

Glad to be aboard. So I received a new water pump kit for my motor mentioned above. However, as I've seen videos on re-installing it, apparently there is an O ring that sits inside the housing below the top plate. My kit did not come with this O ring, nor do I see it as a part that is included in the kit. Is this O ring necessary? I've seen it installed on two videos but all the sites I see that sell the kit do not include it.

I think there might be an o-ring needed at the top of driveshaft just below the spline.

Yes, that one I have but not the one I’ve seen in several videos that are going directly under the plate in the pump housing unit...very strange. Don’t know if it’s absolutely necessary to have.
