1977 Renken engine change

I should have added on my last post that this is my first boat.This is a 17 Ft Renken Bowrider with a 120 Mercruiser power trim.The head is a G M with the # L.5.72 on it.It also has G M #2774531 stamped on it.I dont know if i should redo or change it out with something better and if so what would be a good motor to bolt in its place.Thank you for your help.

I would first check the condition of the boat transom, floor and stringers (joists). There may be hidden rot and waterlogged floatation foam which is expensive to repair. The price of an engine rebuild is probably worth more than the boat's value unless you can do it. Look for a good used engine. The wiring is also 33 years old.
