Recent overhauled pontoon. H

Recent overhauled pontoon. Had to take all engine
controls loose to accomplish. Now the engine is
running about 1/2 throttle at idle. Is the knurled knob on the RH side of engine the adjustment? How do I adjust?

"Jay.... If you're speaking of the black trunion knob on the throttle cable, yes, but that's just one of them. There is also a idle stop screw on the vertical throttle arm (about half way up) that attaches to the throttle cable at the bottom, and the timer base at the top. And also attached to that throttle arm is a threaded horizontal shaft that is screwed into a cam that operates the carburetors via a roller on the carb. Hopefully you did not change that cam setting... and it is exactly the same distance from the throttle arm as before. If so, do this:

Back away the idle stop screw on the vertical throttle arm so that it does not touch anything. Loosen the screw that retains the carburetor roller and back it away from the metal cam. Now, the linkage that connects the throttles of all three carbs (on the starboard side), loosen the top and bottom carb screws that retains that linkage... this allows the throttle of all three carbs to be exactly in synchronization. Tighten those screws without moving the linkage.

Now, move the vertical throttle arm to a position whereas when you slide that carb roller against the matal cam, the exact center of the roller aligns exactly with the scribed mark on that cam. Tighten the screw that retains that roller.

Start the engine and set the idle with the trunion knob at the throttle cable. When the idle is where you want it, screw in the idle stop screw (on the vertical throttle arm) until it bottoms out.

Note, on a flushette, with the water turned on full blast, set the idle at: On a 20" shaft engine= 1000rpm, on a 25" shaft engine= 1200rpm.
Let us know how you make out.

Joe
