Hello
I want to install a water pressure sensor on my merc 850 1972 4C and I'm wondering where I can tap it into. You want it as high up on the water jacket as possible, but I don't seem to find anything to plug it in to.

Any of you have any knowledge about installing one on such an old mercury?

On the rear of the block, on the water jacket cover through which the spark plugs protrude. On later model engines, there is a 1/8 pipe threaded hole with a brass screw plug which is removed for installation of such things.

On a different engine I have bored and tapped a 1/8" NPT hole for mounting such. No big deal just clean up your cuttings as you go. Water pressure isn't over 15 psi so there isn't a lot to worry about other than get off to the side of the plate, not along the vertical center line.....say, take the top plug, and at a 30-45* angle toward the top right corner of the plate, half way between the spark plug and the corner plate mounting bolt would be a good place.
