1972 Johnson 25hp. Solenoid/starting problem

Put on a new solenoid. Hook up positive battery cable. Touch negative cable to post and engine turns over. I believe I installed new solenoid correctly. It's a cheap China solenoid. Motor has a starter button and a stop button. I need help please.

Are you able to get solenoid to click when you power it with the control circuit? Ie small wires? If no click, no start.

Not sure I understand . Control circuit? When I hookup wires to battery it immediately turns over/ tries to start

Could the starter button be stuck on ?To make engine turn over / try to start. When I connect cables to battery.
