1972 Johnson 25hp how could i switch to electric start

wondering the best way if possible to convert to an electric start? what are the most common problems with these engines? mine is hard to start and like to backfire when idleing. would that be something to do with the power head?

The best way to convert that to electric start is sell it and buy what you want. Those are not hard starting motors make sure the choke is working correctly. The backfiring is probably a lean sneeze you need to make the idle richer. You do this with the top needle on the carb open an 1/8 turn at a time until it goes away. Should help with starting also.

A donor motor with all the parts is the best way to go.-------Those motors in proper tune are easy to start.-----Is the recoil rope the correct length to properly time the sheave for less effort.
