What are the differences between the long shaft and short shaft
Versions of the 1969 Evinrude 55hp motor? I have the long shaft
and want to convert to the short shaft. What parts are differnt?

Thank you,

Jay

The difference is 5"------You will need a short exhaust hosing.------A short driveshaft.------Powerhead must be removed to install it on a short housing.-----Your lower unit must come apart to change out the driveshaft.-----If you could walk over I show you the used parts.

Thank you! Where is the extra 5"? The exhaust housung?
I'm trying to find the parts I need to convert to short shaft.
My exhaust housing is 17". Short housing 12"?
Thamks,
Jay

Totally impractical unless you have a short shaft parts motor. Think of it as almost the whole midsection and steering bracket assembly, plus the drive shaft.

Post # 2 mentions that you need a SHORT exhaust housing !-----I have all the parts to make yours a short shaft.----I am 1500 miles away.------So not practical or cost effective.
