1957 Evinrude Fastwin 18 hp

Motors been sitting for 30 years new coils points plugs etc,,
It starts and runs but whenever I start it in start position & turn throttle handle in any direction it stalls why ?
However if I start it in fast it’ll run anywhere in the fast position
Does it need to go on water and run for awhile ?

Clean carburetor.----You are running this with water in a test bucket ??----If it sat for 30 years it will also need a new water pump impeller !

Yes n bucket with wtr impeller seems good.
Yea think if I just run it with some sea foam in gas it should clean itself out right ?
