15 hp. evinrude wont idle

Hello I have a 15 hp. evinrude 1985 model wont idle dies before I can get in gear , also hard to start . any help would be great , thanks

Check cylinder compression.--Check reed valves as the 15HP model is known to break them at 6000 RPM

hello I checked compression the best I could by pulling the rope , and I got 70 lbs , I will check the reed valves , also im going to go through the carb ..
