Hot 25mph Volvo 21 Please Help

HI when im going 25mph or so f

HI when im going 25mph or so for 5 or 10 min my boat volvo 2.1 runs around 210 or hotter but just a min or so after I slow down the temp drops I can sit & idal all day and it will never get hot. it has a closed cooling system.. Do you guys think I need to replace my impeller ???? Thanks

"Tom, the fishing was slow for me but not for the @#$%*!! seal that took my large chinook and part of the line, flasher included. Hopefully, it will get better in the next few weeks. Drop me an e-mail if you wish and let me know when you intend to be in the Bamfield area, I know the area fairly well.

Back to the overheating problem, it seems to be caused by either air ingress or water flow restriction. Air ingress is usually a hose connector problem, and flow restriction would be due to faulty impeller, clogged strainer, or choked manifold. Don will have to do some home work to find out what is actually causing the problem, but I'm sure he will find the cause."

"The water pickup tube (which is embedded in the pivots of the outdrive) pass thru a series of nylon washers which seal against air ingress. If you are idling along (displacement mode) they are submerged and suck only water. If you are moving faster, just below planing speed, they will suck air and you will overheat. If you go faster onto full plane, the lower unit will scoop enough water to force it up the water pickup tube and overcome the air leak.
Replace the seals/nylon washers around your water tube, and the problem will go away.
How does this problem develop? If you ever overheat (due to sucking up mud, debris, etc etc) you will cook those seals and they'll leak.
How do you fix this problem? Remove the intermediate housing, disassemble, replace the seals, and reassemble. About 4 hours labor."
