I have a Scandy White welded aluminum 16' boat that I am restoring. I plan on removing all the carpet and glue and painting the topsides.
Does anyone have solid experience on coating aluminum?
I am definitely going to scrape, sand and clean the aluminum (aluma brite last).
Then I wil use brazing rod to repair small holes, have larger ones from old equipment fittings welded.
I will need to fill some pitting, ugly welds and panel joints. I have been told Metal filled bondo is best. But, I don't know if I should use an etching primer before the bondo.
I found some 3M auto body panel filler/caulk that I am entertaining using on sharp joints to fillet it smooth.
I have found 1 part self etching top coat paints, epoxy paints and others. Any good ideas?
