Hi, Apologies for basic questions but I have just bought a second hand 2008 Maxum 2100 SC3 with a 5.0l mpi Mercruiser (only 13 hours on clock) and the engine failed on first outing and I am scratching my head as to why...
Engine started great and was running for around 2.5 hours on and off with no issues.
Coming back towards port noticed engine sounding a bit rough and when pushing accelerator full down it started to bog down. (Much like running out of fuel that I have had on previous outboards).
As I slowed to a 5mph marker and came off the plane engine died and would not re-start (resulting in a pan, pan call for assistance to get me back).
To summarise:
Battery power is good.
Engine turns over well and can be heard trying to kick in to life.
I had assumed fuel must have been running lower than gauge showed (Showed half full - added 30 gallons new at start of day but first time out after winterisation)
Put 4 gallons in at dockside to no avail and since added another 10 gallons with no luck.
There is a shreider valve on top of injectors common line and fuel is coming out, had thought maybe a pump issue but when pressed in valve and cranked engine, plenty fuel spraying up.
Checked microswitches for neutral position and both good.
Looked at all engine fuses and all good.
Engine kill switch is ok.
Anything else I should be trying before handing over to a spe******t. I had originally assumed fuel issue but since it seems to be getting through then I would have thought electronic ignition may be issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
