proper draining of a 2006 6.0 MPI freshwater/coolant system?

It is time to change out the coolant/water in my engine however I cannot seem to find the proper way to drain the system in the manual, I only see drains for the raw water side of the system. What is the best way?
 
Are there no side engine block drain plugs on this engine?

The engine circulating pump suction hose removal will allow much of the coolant to drain, but you'll want to remove the side engine drain plugs to remove the remaining coolant from around the cylinder areas.

I successfully drained the system and refilled it. There is no way I got all the old out as I was only able to get about 2/3 of the volume the manual says it requires. A lot of crud came out of the system which I didn't like seeing.

after re-filling and idling engine up to temp it over heated! Now I have read about air being trapped in the system but I also was under the impression that the newer engines with the degas bottle wouldn't trap air in the system. Anyone have any experience with this?
 
Welcome to DEX-COOL! Unfortunately, you aren't the only one that has seen the crud come out...best thing to do is keep flushing it until it runs clear and then refill it...yes, a major PITA but what choice do you have?

They will trap air...no doubt about it...if the level in the degas bottle dropped once the engine cooled down, fill it back up again and repeat the cycle until the degas bottle's level stays consistent.

Is there a method for flushing the sytem with a hose to help remove any gunk that may be in there still prior to re-filling with coolant mixture?
