Not charging.

I just bought a sailboat with a Nissan 9.8 two stroke outboard. on a long trip to Catalina I discovered my batteries were not charging. it is a 2000 model with electric start. It has a perko battery selector. Any thoughts?

Clay, Verify your model (Year is unimportant for servicing a Tohatsu/Nissan outboard, but model/serial is critical). Grab a factory service manual (available from any dealer, including me), and a good analog (not digital) multimeter, and diagnose the problem. You may have a poor connection somewhere (maybe even between the motor and the battery), or a bad alternator or rectifier. But, at the cost of parts, don't guess -- diagnose.
