shift rod bushing removal

You never indicated what motor you are working on. When I re-sealed my 1961 5.5Hp Johnson, I simply used a 5/16" tap and made about 3 threads on that brass bushing. I then screwed in a 5/16" bolt into the bushing. I then took a 1/4" rod and inserted it from underneath the bolt and simply tapped it out with a rubber mallet. You could also simply pull on the new bolt as well.
 
A brass rod about a foot long by 5/16ths inch can be used to tap the bushing out from the gear side. Also a gentleman by the name of Frank Robb over at aomci.org has made some of the tools for servicing the 50's and 60's OMC motors. Had the bushing removal tool, flywheel puller, flywheel holder and a tool for replacing the O-rings in the dual line fittings.
