First off I do not know

Hi:
First off I do not know what the shift mech. on the 77 is at present.Unit is solid white in color if that is of any use. Will a 70hp upper work with the 50hp es lower end(bolt pattern/gear types/shaft etc)?

ooohhh it's tuff to get old!! I mixed my info up on my earlier post of 1972 es 50 hp johnson lower end with 1977 70 johnson . It should be 1972 es 50hp johnson lower end matched with 1977 70 hp evinrude upper(olive machine green in color). I am sure that i do not have model# yet.

you are wasting your time on

you are wasting your time on that swap out.Drive shaft spline is different and shift set up is different. Again it WILL NOT WORK.
 
I have a 1950/51 Johnson Seah

I have a 1950/51 Johnson Seahorse 5.0 hp. There is a cable that runs down the shaft connecting to a lever that rubs the drive shaft. Can someone tell me what his cable does? It was not connected properly when I received the motor.
