My 1972 85 horsepower Johnson

My 1972 85 horsepower Johnson Outboard seems to be getting water into the lower unit. The lower unit lube was milky so I replaced it with new lube. Then I connected the outboard to a water hose and ran it for about 10 minutes shifting between forward to reverse. I checked the lube again and it was allready milky. Can water get from the water pump to the lower unit? Thank you.

Yes there is two seals under

Yes there is two seals under there that can let water intrude. Get you a water pump rebuild kit and it will have all the seals and base plate.
Then replace all that under there and then run another thirty years. unless you run on river a lot.silt and sand has a tendency to eat them up.
Replace the impeller every year or two.

" Let the motor stand for 24hrs before checking the oil.Air mixes in and gives it the white look.Pressure test that unit, or get your wallet out for major expenses down the road "
