Temperature gauge sending unit

I have a 1987 135hp mercury o

I have a 1987 135hp mercury ob. The temp gauge does not move at all. I have checked all the electrical connections to the gauge and they are all okay. Checked the t-stat and that is okay. Where is the sending unit located so I can check the connections at that end? How can I test to see if it may be a faulty sending unit or temp gauge?? Any suggestions??

"Marty, the sending unit is in the stbd side cylinder head. To ck your gauge, take a "jumper" wire and ground out the tan/blue lead from the sender. The needle on the gauge should peg the direct opposite side. If it does, your gauge is fine.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info. Tonight I ran the test as you said. The temp gauge did peg the opposite side when that lead was grounded. Now time to replace the sending unit and see what that does.
