Noisy damper plate

I have a 29 Luhrs w/twin 350

I have a 29 Luhrs w/twin 350 mercruisers MPI and Hurth 630 600 hrs. I have a lot of noise comming from the port damper plate. My question? Is there a better damper out there or is the stock one ok? How long should they last?
Also how often should I replace the exhaust manifolds in salt water?

There is a better damper plate to use with the hurths, because they are a bit noisy. Especially if your engine has a misfire or is idleing too low.
