" What would be the correct voltage output for my 1968 55 HP Evinrude?. I had problems keeping a charge on the battery in the past. and want to clarify it before I get it in the water. I currently run 12.40 to 12.65 volts at the battery terminals during a flush test. I was assuming it would be in the 13 to 14 volt range like for a car. Maybe I am wrong.
I Followed your directions from a previous posting on checking the stator, rectifier etc. I believe they all passed the testing. I replaced the rectifier last year and recently re-placed the corroded/bad wiring in the harness from the boat to motor plug connection. The boat fires up and appears to run fine with a fully charged battery. Any clues would be greatly appreciated. "

"John,

The best thing to do is to monitor the battery voltage. If you notice that it is declining then the charging system is not working.

If it maintains the same voltage over a period of time, then you know that the charging system is working.

I don't think you would charge at 13 or 14 volts at low speed.
